ICAN Board of Directors
The ICAN Foundation is governed and advised by a board of directors that is made up of nine members with experience in education, nonprofits and diversity relations from around the state. They represent a variety of fields and constituents, including:
- College access.
- Postsecondary education.
- High school counselors.
- Students.
- Businesses.
- Organizations.
Initial directors were nominated by the Iowa Student Loan board of directors and serve a term of three, four or five years. Each subsequent director will be nominated by current ICAN board members and serve a three-year term.
Kevin Fangman is administrator of the Division of PK – 12 Education for the Iowa Department of Education in Des Moines.
Juan Garcia (president and non-voting member) is the executive director of ICAN.
DeLores Hawkins (secretary) is the district director overseeing the financial aid department, student financial aid appeals, and scholarships and veterans affairs at Des Moines Area Community College in Ankeny.
Steve McCullough is the president and chief executive officer at Iowa Student Loan Liquidity Corporation in West Des Moines.
Lew Montgomery of Cedar Rapids is the strategic buyer and manager of talent acquisition at Alliant Energy.
Robert Piechota of Sioux City is the executive director of financial aid at Briar Cliff University.
Alfred Ramirez is the principal consultant of diversity and inclusion at Diverse Strategies in Rock Island, Ill. He formerly held the position of principal consultant for diversity initiatives at ACT Inc. in Iowa City.
Amy Ryan of Burlington is a school counselor at West Burlington High School.
Tammie Schroeder (treasurer) is a financial adviser at Edward Jones Investments in Altoona.
Dick Schwab (chairman) is a member of the Solon School Board and owner and founder of Woodworks in Solon. He formerly held the position of general manager for NCS Pearson Inc. in Coralville.
