Discover Your Interests

It happens all the time. Relatives, parents, teachers and other adults want to know your plans for the future. They ask what you want to do after high school, if you're going to college, what you're going to study there and so on.

These questions can make you crazy, can't they? When you don't know exactly what you plan to do after high school, it helps to start with an easier question: What are you interested in? The questions in this chart will help you understand what you like to do, what you're good at and what's important to you.

A good way to match your traits with possible careers is to use self-assessment tests and inventories. Match your skills and interests to careers with the tools at www.ihaveaplaniowa.gov. Talk to your counselor about this test and others.
