Student Success Advisor - East Central, IA

The Iowa College Access Network (ICAN) is seeking a Student Success Advisor to be based in its Cedar rapids-area regional office. As a statewide nonprofit, ICAN empowers Iowans to achieve educational and career success  through comprehensive outreach initiatives and partnerships with schools, groups and businesses.

Appointment Conditions:

12 month position

Proposed Start Date:

February 1, 2018, is preferred start date, but will be flexible if successful applicant is under contract through end of academic year.

General Responsibilities:    


  • Assist in the promotion of the Iowa College Access Network (ICAN) to civic groups, guidance counselors, financial aid officers, career placement officials, school boards, parents and students.
  • Assist clients seeking help regarding various college, career and financial aid planning activities.
  • Participate and represent the organization in various seminars, public relations activities and professional organizations.
  • Communicate effectively with both internal and external customers.
  • Assist in developing and enhancement of ICAN's publications.
  • Monitor financial aid, admissions and career planning trends and issues and provide input on their impact on corporation products and services.
  • Assist with development of methods to accurately measure services and performance results for the organization.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Work as part of a team of professionals in delivering detailed information to the public.



  • Required: Bachelor’s degree ,
  • Preferred: 2+ years’ experience in college admissions, financial aid, school counseling, career counseling, marketing/sales or related area .
  • Extensive travel to assigned schools within Eastern Iowa.
  • A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel and Access.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Passion for delivering excellent customer service to a wide range of clients
  • Ability to work as part of a team of professionals in delivering detailed information to the public.
  • Bilingual skills encouraged.
