The Iowa College Access Network® (ICAN) empowers Iowans to achieve their educational and career goals through statewide comprehensive outreach, initiatives and partnerships with schools, groups and businesses.
Planning for college and filing for financial aid can be confusing and intimidating, whether you're doing it for the first time or the ninth. For that reason, ICAN representatives travel the state bringing college access programming into individual communities and schools. ICAN staff also meet individually with students and their families at the ICAN offices in Cedar Rapids and West Des Moines. All ICAN programs and services are offered without charge.
ICAN began in 1998 as the College Planning Center, a division of Iowa Student Loan Liquidity Corporation. In 2006, ICAN joined the National College Access Network (NCAN). Through this partnership ICAN works closely with NCAN to bring national access programs to Iowa students. ICAN separated from Iowa Student Loan in 2009, becoming an independent nonprofit organization.
As an independent nonprofit ICAN has a great ability to provide new opportunities and assist other Iowa educational organizations in encouraging students to pursue higher education. To fulfill its mission, ICAN relies exclusively on donations, grants and sponsorships. Generous financial support from people and companies ensure that the work to change the future and offer hope to young people is carried out.
