College Planning for Sophomores
Summary Description:

College Planning for Sophomores reinforces the four-year plan curriculum and takes a deeper look at career interests through job shadows, internships and research. Students will also begin looking at college admission requirements and the importance of community involvement and scholarships. The following topics are covered during the presentation:

  • Declaring a Career/Major
  • Goal Setting
  • Academic Admission Requirements
  • Activity Resumes and Scholarships
  • College Fairs and Types of Colleges

This program is designed for both small classroom (20-35 students) and large auditorium presentations.

Time of Year: Fall for sophomores

Summary Description:

Students engage in a discussion of recent employment trends for high school and college graduates to determine the benefits of a college education. Students will also take an in-depth look at admission requirements such as GPA, ACT/SAT and high school course planning and selection. Students will leave the presentation knowing their next steps and with a timeline for college success. The following topics are covered during the presentation:

  • Economic Trends and Goal Setting
  • Academic Success and Admission Requirements
  • Choosing a College and Campus Visits
  • Application Process
  • Scholarships and Basic Financial Aid
Time of Year: Juniors - September, October
Sophomores - March, April, May
Length: 45 - 60 minutes

College Planning Night
Summary Description:

The goal of the evening College Planning Program is to equip juniors and their parent/guardian with the knowledge to select an appropriate college and understand the admission and scholarship application process. Attendees will leave knowing how colleges review transcript information such as GPA, ACT/SAT scores and high school course selection, as well as a timeline for success from junior year through graduation. The following topics are covered during the presentation:

  • Admission Process and Requirements
  • College Selection and Campus Visits
  • Application Process
  • Understanding Costs - Cost of Attendance
  • Scholarships
  • Successful Transitions
Time of Year: September/October - juniors and parents
March/April - sophomores and parents
Length: 60 - 75 minutes
