Student Success Advisor - Western Iowa

ICAN, a dynamic and impactful statewide nonprofit organization spearheading college and career readiness in Iowa, is seeking a tech-savvy, high-energy Student Success Advisor to join its team. 

Student Success Advisor

Location Western Iowa - ideally located in or near either Council Bluffs or Sioux City. During the pandemic, most services will be delivered virtually; post-pandemic, the advisor will have an office in either Council Bluffs or Sioux City.
Appointment Conditions 12 month/year position
Proposed Start Date July 12, 2021, or sooner depending upon employment status of chosen candidate
General Responsibilities
  • Assist in the promotion of ICAN to school counselors, financial aid officers, career placement officials, school boards, parents and students, within assigned region.
  • Assist clients seeking individualized help regarding college and career planning activities.
  • Participate and represent the organization in various seminars, public relations activities and professional organizations.
  • Communicate effectively with both internal and external customers.
  • Assist in developing and enhancement of ICAN's publications.
  • Monitor financial aid, admissions and career planning trends and issues and provide input on their impact on corporation products and services.
  • Assist with development of methods to accurately measure services and performance results for the organization.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned. 
  • Work as part of a team of professionals in delivering detailed information to the public.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, with 2+ years’ experience in college admissions, financial aid, school counseling, career counseling, or related area preferred.  Recent college graduates with student services experience while in college are also encouraged to apply.
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively to assigned schools within Western Iowa.
  • A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel and Access.
  • Experience using video conferencing tools, such as Zoom or Microsoft Teams, to collaborate and share information.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to deliver excellent customer service to a wide range of clients
  • Work as part of a team of professionals in delivering detailed information to the public. 
  • Bilingual skills encouraged.
