Breakout Sessions

Breakout session from Golden Circle College & Career Fair in Des MoinesSeveral break-out sessions will be held throughout the event on a variety of topics including career exploration and training, college planning, job outlook, and more. These sessions are free during the fair.

As sessions are confirmed for the 2019 fair the descriptions will be listed here and posted on Facebook and Twitter.

Finding your Why:  Career exploration resources to help design your future - 1 pm

Kate Moreland - Director of Career Development for ICR Iowa

This workshop is designed to help students understand the importance of  developing a career path or plan.  Students will be introduced to a 10 step process that will encourage them to consider what they are good at and what they love to do, in an effort to better explore potential careers.

Free, Personalized College and Career Planning - 1:30 pm

Lew Montgomery - Director, Community Engagement/Center for Equity in Learning

This session will take an in-depth look at ACT College Readiness Benchmarks and subject areas that represent the level of achievement required by students to pursue college and career preparedness.  We will show how students can use our 50+ years of research and data to help deliver personalized insights that help people at key transition points in their lives, including after high school to get the results they want both in their career and college planning stages.  For the counselors, educators, or mentors, we will also preview our  dashboard tools within ACT Profile.  With our dashboards, you can identify students’ interest areas, see those potential gaps or challenges, remind students to complete critical tasks, and share relevant resources and information.

Workplace Learning Connection: Connecting our Future Workforce - 2 pm

Career awareness, exploration and quality work-based learning are key in youth development and WLC supports the work of  connecting today’s students to tomorrow’s careers. Discover career awareness and exploration opportunities delivered in AREA 10. WLC is the regional intermediary delivering high quality work-based learning through career fairs, tours, speakers, job shadows, customized career events, internships and more. Learn about critical careers and in our region and the career connected learning collaborations providing our regional k-12 students a competitive advantage.
