Iowa Bankers Association FAFSA Completion Toolkit

Congratulations on completing the ICAN FAFSA Training and earning your certification as a FAFSA Completion Assistance professional.

Using Your Training

Being FAFSA certified means you can help any member of your community complete a vital step in the college-going process. The FAFSA helps students access financial aid for a number of programs, including community college career and technical education and transfer programs, as well as four-year Bachelor degree programs and graduate level study.

You can provide assistance in completing the FAFSA form, or just provide an overview of the financial aid process, to high school seniors and parents, to current college students, and to members of your community seeking to return to school and advance their education.

Resources

Here are some resources to help you utilize your certification training and engage with your customers.

Why File the FAFSA

Even if a family thinks they won't receive aid, they should file the FAFSA - every family is different and you never know what opportunities the FAFSA can bring. Here is a document that goes over common reasons families don't want to file. Download.

FSA ID

The Federal Student Aid ID is a username and password needed to complete the FAFSA form. Share this website with families to help them setup an FSA ID before meeting with you - www.icansucceed.org/fsaid, or use this worksheet to help families setup their IDs while in your office.

Documents to File the FAFSA

There are specific documents and information needed to complete the FAFSA form. Visit www.icansucceed.org/whattobring to share the correct list with families prior to a FAFSA completion appointment.
