Several breakout sessions will be held throughout the event on a variety of topics including career planning, the future of Iowa's workforce and the financial aid process. These sessions are free during the fair.

Know Your Steps to Success - Preview the New Parent Reminder Tool (Iowa Student Loan)

Parent engagement is a key component to a student’s overall success in life, and studies show that parents remain the number one influencer in achieving that success. But with so much information and so many resources available, how can parents make sense of it all in a meaningful way that will help their students plan for life after high school?

Through focus groups, surveys, and partnerships with counselors and educational organizations, Iowa Student Loan is developing a unique parent service that combines important and timely information in a clear and concise format to assist parents in helping their student’ plan for their future.

Learn about our findings and preview our newest educational tool. Attendees will be able to register for the service and automatically start receiving emails in January 2020. As an added bonus, active participants in the service are entered into quarterly drawings for 529 college savings plan deposits. We’ll be giving away $250 to each of forty winners every quarter.

Free, Personalized College and Career Planning (ACT)

Presented by Lew Montgomery - Director, Community Engagement/Center for Equity in Learning

This session will take an in-depth look at ACT College Readiness Benchmarks and subject areas that represent the level of achievement required by students to pursue college and career preparedness.  We will show how students can use our 60+ years of research and data to help deliver personalized insights that help people at key transition points in their lives, including after high school to get the results they want both in their career and college planning stages.  For the counselors, educators, or mentors, we will also preview our  dashboard tools within ACT Profile.  With our dashboards you can identify students’ interest areas, see those potential gaps or challenges, remind students to complete critical tasks, and share relevant resources and information.

How to Pay for College: Understanding the Financial Aid Process (ICAN)
