ICAN Celebrates Milestones, Announces Key Openings
Long-serving Student Success Advisors Announce Retirement
Mary Joan Dougherty
Mary Joan Dougherty joined the ICAN team in June 2017, after retiring from a successful career as a school counselor in Northwest Iowa. At ICAN, Mary Joan leveraged her experiences in K-12 education to enhance ICAN’s programs and resources and provided insights into the creation of school counselor-focused professional development programming.
Mary Joan has also been a vital member of the development team for ICAN’s Career and College Readiness Curriculum program, helping not only to shape the lessons, but also in piloting those lessons in classrooms and working with students to understand their needs in classroom-based instruction.
Mary Joan’s last day with ICAN will be Feb. 8, 2022.
John Holland
A fixture at ICAN for the past 23 years, and in the financial aid arena for more than 30 years, John Holland will be retiring as a Student Success Advisor in early September 2022.
John has provided impactful guidance and advice to thousands of students and families across Northeast Iowa during his tenure at ICAN. John is one of ICAN’s most-trusted advisors on financial aid and helping families best understand how to pay for college or training beyond high school.
Recently, John utilized his expertise to help design and deliver financial aid and FAFSA training to K-12 and higher education professionals across Iowa.
We celebrate the achievements of Mary Joan and John and wish them the best in retirement!
