ICAN Student Success Center Opening Scheduled for Oct. 16

ICAN Welcomes Area Educators at Part of Grand Opening Celebration

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA (October 14, 2013) — The Iowa College Access Network (ICAN) will celebrate the Grand Opening of the East Central Iowa Student Success Center Wednesday, October 16. This new center brings expert career and college planning resources, as well as financial aid assistance, to the community, offering free services to students, parents and local school districts.

The Grand Opening Celebration will begin at 4:30 p.m. at the Linn County Regional Center at 1770 Boyson Road in Hiawatha, and will include refreshments. It is free and open to the public.

“This event offers a perfect opportunity for anyone interested in ICAN to come and see what we have to offer, ask questions, and meet our team,” said Rob Miller, ICAN executive director. “This Student Success Center is possible, in part, because of our great partnership with Kirkwood Community College. Both ICAN and Kirkwood are committed to helping students gain access to information and resources needed to make informed decisions for college and careers. The grand opening is a great way to really get to know ICAN and all the possibilities we have to offer area students.”

Hiawatha Mayor Theis, along with representatives from ICAN’s Board of Directors and Kirkwood, will speak on the new ICAN center, ICAN services, program information, and much more. In addition, officials from the Greater Cedar Rapids Economic Alliance will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially kick things off. The East Central Iowa Student Success Center will provide local services across a 13-county region encompassing 66 high schools and approximately 28,000 students. Area students, parents, counselors, educators and higher education professionals are encouraged to attend and learn more about this exciting new resource in the Greater Cedar Rapids community.

The Iowa College Access Network (ICAN) was established in 1998 and has built a reputation with the education community of Iowa as a professional, expert resource. ICAN currently works with 99% of the high schools in Iowa, visiting each school throughout the academic year to provide on-site planning workshops with students and parents. The new Student Success Center allows workshop attendees to follow-up and receive individualized planning advice at a location near home without charge.
