Iowa College Access Network Expands to Eight Locations

Collegiate Partners Bring Student Success Centers to Communities Statewide

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA – July 29, 2013 – The Iowa College Access Network (ICAN), a nonprofit organization that provides career, college and financial literacy planning assistance to Iowa students from middle school through college, is expanding with the opening of eight regional Student Success Centers. Each center will reside on a strategically placed college campus across the state, creating regional hubs of career and college planning services and resources. ICAN’s mission is to empower Iowans to achieve their educational and career goals through statewide comprehensive outreach, initiatives and partnerships with schools, groups and businesses.

“The opening of these new Student Success Center is a huge step in our goal of providing true statewide service to Iowa families,” said Rob Miller, executive director of ICAN. “These Student Success Centers will provide “local” services across regions of the state previously cut-off from direct, one-on-one assistance.”

These new centers, located in Cedar Rapids, Council Bluffs, Davenport, Des Moines, Orange City, Ottumwa, Sioux City and Waterloo, are the result of careful and strategic planning and the creation of partnerships with colleges and universities throughout Iowa. These institutions include Kirkwood Community College. Iowa Western Community College, St. Ambrose University, Des Moines Area Community College, Northwestern College, Indian Hills Community College, Western Iowa Tech Community College and the University of Northern Iowa. Each new Student Success Center will open beginning in August, 2013, with the exception of the DMACC Center. The DMACC center will open in January 2014.

“In looking at Iowa we wanted to create hubs that would be easily accessible to more students and parents,” said Miller. “We are proud of the partnerships we have created with each of these institutions and look forward to the growth and opportunities these new centers create.”

ICAN serves in 99 percent of the schools in Iowa and currently has more than 70 programs on high school success, college planning, financial aid and financial literacy scheduled in the Quad Cities area for the 2013-2014 academic year. All ICAN services are offered at no cost.
