ICAN Welcomes Area Educators at Part of Grand Opening Celebration
DAVENPORT, IOWA (September 20, 2013) — The Iowa College Access Network (ICAN), in conjunction with St. Ambrose University, will hold an Open House Tuesday, September 24, to celebrate the opening of its Quad Cities Student Success Center. This new center brings expert career and college planning resources , as well as financial aid assistance, to the community, offering free services to students, parents and local school districts.
The Open House will be from 5-7 p.m. at the North Davenport Education Center at 1950 East 54th Street, and will include refreshments. It is free and open to the public.
“This event offers a perfect opportunity for anyone interested in ICAN to come and see what we have to offer, ask questions, and meet our team,” said Rob Miller, ICAN executive director. “This Student Success Center is possible, in part, because of our great partnership with St. Ambrose University. Both ICAN and St. Ambrose are committed to helping students gain access to information and resources needed to make informed decisions for college and careers. The open house is a great way to really get to know ICAN and all the possibilities we have to offer area students.”
Representatives from both ICAN’s Board of Directors and St. Ambrose University will speak on this new partnership, ICAN services, program information, and much more. In addition, officials from the Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially kick things off. The Quad Cities Student Success Center will provide local services across a nine-county region encompassing 42 high schools and approximately 25,000 students. Area students, parents, counselors, educators and higher education professionals are encouraged to attend and learn more about this exciting new member of the Quad Cities community.
The Iowa College Access Network (ICAN) was established in 1998 and has built a reputation with the education community of Iowa as a professional, expert resource. ICAN currently works with 99% of the high schools in Iowa, visiting each school throughout the academic year to provide on-site planning workshops with students and parents. The addition of the Student Success Center to the Davenport community allows workshop attendees to follow-up and receive individualized planning advice at a location near home without charge.
